Overview
The South Slope represents the most prestigious and historically significant section of Beacon Hill. Developed in the late 18th century by Boston’s wealthiest families, this distinguished enclave stretches between the Massachusetts State House, Boston Common, and the neighborhood’s iconic residential streets. Grand Federal-style townhouses, brick sidewalks, gas lanterns, and meticulously preserved architecture create one of the most recognizable streetscapes in America.
Often considered the heart of “classic” Beacon Hill, the South Slope is home to many of the neighborhood’s most coveted addresses, including Mount Vernon Street, Chestnut Street, and the renowned Louisburg Square.
