OVERVIEW
Cottage Farm Historic District is one of Brookline’s most prestigious and architecturally significant neighborhoods. Tucked away, this 67-acre enclave of grand single-family homes feels like a secluded village, seemingly appearing out of nowhere. Its proximity to Boston’s Back Bay is what really separates it from every other high end suburban destination in Massachusetts.
Cottage Farm Historic District: Architecture & BU Presence
Significant for its architectural character, Cottage Farm Historic District features high-quality housing on large lots, centered around Amory Playground and Mason Square – the private parks for these residents. Boston University has purchased several of the houses in this area, some serve as department offices and a couple others are for housing. The President’s House is within the district, and the Sears-Talbot House is now the home of the Vice-President too.

Location
Bordered by Amory Street to the west, Dummer and Mountfort Streets to the north, and Beacon Street properties to the south, Cottage Farm—along with its neighboring area, Longwood—is the closest part of Brookline to downtown Boston, just minutes from Fenway on foot. Plus, Cottage Farm is the only original section of Brookline with direct access to the Charles River!
